Expand your knowledge of traditional folk tunes, techniques, and etiquette. Build a repertoire of music played at pubs, festivals, community centers, and campfires around the world. Immerse yourself in the rich culture of melodies and rhythms that have brought musicians, dancers, and listeners together for centuries. We begin each class by learning a new tune (or two!) on instruments that are featured in a typical session. Learn the role of various melody instruments (fiddle, mandolin, whistle etc) and rhythm instruments (guitar, bodhran) along with basic techniques. While the pace is aimed at people who can already play their instruments, it’s still a great opportunity for beginners and I’d encourage you to attend if you’re interested in learning trad music. All instruments (and ability levels) are welcome as many of the principles to be covered apply to all acoustic instruments.
When: Mondays from 4-6pm (Instruction: 4-5pm, Session/tune review: 5-6pm)
Where: The Old Library
Fee: $10 suggested donation per session (to cover room rental)
